A trilingual portfolio website with a custom corporate identity for a Swiss photographer and filmmaker.
Challenge
Swiss photographer and filmmaker Lars Neumayer needed a portfolio website that would bring two distinct areas of work together under one identity. Both had to be given equal space, without making one discipline feel secondary to the other and without creating two separate websites side by side.
Another requirement was to showcase vibrant imagery without letting the design compete with it.
And because his clients extend beyond German-speaking Switzerland, the website needed to work in three languages from the outset.
Solution
The two areas of work are distinguished through the background colour rather than separate presentations. The photography section is set against white, while the videography section is set against black. When switching between them, the entire background inverts, while the navigation, typography and grid remain unchanged. This keeps both areas recognisably part of the same presence, while still giving each one a distinct character.
The design introduces no colour of its own. Everything outside the work itself is black, white or grey, ensuring that the images remain the only colourful elements on the page.
We also developed the corporate identity and built the website in German, English and French, including a backend that allows Lars to add new work himself.
The imagery remains the focal point on mobile. Content extends edge to edge across the full width, controls are reduced to the essentials, and the page structure remains consistent in both views.
Result
Since launch, Lars Neumayer has presented both areas of his work under one address, in three languages and without the design competing with the work itself.
